After the War
The Korean War brought diverse effects to not just Korea but places like China, Russia, Japan, the U.S., and a few other places. The Korean War was a destructive war and caused about 4 million Korean’s to lose their life, 2/3 of those being civilians. The war also destroyed Korea’s agriculture, industry, and the economy. Even though it had a very negative effect on Korea, it actually helped revive Japan’s economy like it did ours during World War II. The war had a similar effect on the U.S. economy. However, the effects the war had on the U.S. was not all positive. The U.S. spent up to 60 billion dollars on defense and failed to liberate North Korea. There were also about 142,000 war casualties.
As for China and Russia, they gained a closer relationship with each other. It’s said for the first few years of the war, Russia was seen as the teacher while China was seen as Russia’s follower. But they both had some negative in the war. China had over 900,000 war casualties. The cost of the war was too much for China and they failed to win South Korea for communism. As for Russia, they were forced into an expensive arms race with America.
Besides bringing economic success to Japan, destruction to Korea, and friendship to Russia and China, the War was able to bring a large military expansion throughout the world. But at the end of the Korean War, Korea was still split and North Korea still with a communist government, as it is today. But communism did not spread past North Korea. The Korean War also brought more power throughout the world. The effects of the Korean War can still be seen today.
